First thing I did was polish it further, using a metal polish. Then I sterilized it in boiling water. It took three times to get it inserted and on the third time, it popped in, literally! Very comfortable to wear and with the ring in the end, there is no danger of it getting lost inside. To go back a minute; I used a local anasthetic (orajel) along with astrolube to get it in. You have to be a little erect or else it just pushes down the glans and won't fully insert. You can help the process by constricting the penis at its base with thumb and forefinger. If you want, you can also attach a lightweight leash on the end ring. The effect gets a lot of attention and you'll get played with a lot more than if you had nothing. Removal is the reverse of insertion - takes a fair bit of force to pull it out. I did have some blood - not much - on removal but it stopped right away and there were no after effects or complications. I would urge you not to share the device and to sterilize it frequently to prevent infections of the urinary tract, which can be particularly difficult to treat.
