Many subs have known for years that entering “sub space” during a good BDSM scene can be a good and pleasurable experience which carries over into the rest of their lives. Today the New Scientist magazine reports that Spanking ‘brings couples together’, something already known by BDSM fetish couples but now supported by preliminary research. Of those couples who were studied, the sub in all scenes (especially sub women) experienced increases in stress hormones at first but when scenes went well these levels quickly returned to normal after the scene. Couples, despite the increased stress levels, reported that afterwards they felt closer and more intimate with each other.
It is, of course, important to note that these good effects were only present in couples whose scenes went well and who both enjoyed their roles. Further research will need to be done to see if these same results are present in couples where orgasm is not.
Of course, for those in the BDSM community, this is not exactly news. However, for many who experience shame or ostracism due to their sexual practices, this might be a ray of sunshine. Perhaps with more scientific study and acceptance of the BDSM lifestyle the taboos surrounding it will decline in the same way some of the taboos around female masturbation have. Until then, get your own floggers and whips and see for yourself if a little bit of spanking brings you and your partner closer together!

You mean there were taboos against female masturbation? I never heard of that. I thought they were just mislabled as hysterics.
I’m actually kinda upset about the whole acceptance of female masturbation. We females can no longer happily go around clutching our fists between our legs, shaking breathlessly in public. DARN! RATS! They found us out and labelled it. Now we are limited and oppressed from having hysterical fits. ARGHHH!
