What could be better than this?!

I recently gave in and bought a video ipod, but more than anything I
listen to music and books on tape. Our buyer found this item and thought
we should give it a try. I’m going to get one for myself. What could be better than an ipod driven vibrator sex toys? The question now is… Should I listen to the 1812 overture or some 158 bpm trance music?

I opened my Cingular is now AT&T bill today and for once I happened to actually check out the very colorful inserts they send.

I was shocked! The paragraph is titled “Be Smart about your children’s wireless use” and the first sentence was one I couldn’t believe…. and I quote…

“With Media Net Parental Controls, you can easily restrict mobile phone access to websites containing content inappropriate for children.”

Now I do sell sex toys.. which I think are entirely appropriate for adults… all the big brother watching us concerns aside…

I do not want AT&T restricting my kids to inappropriate content.
I would prefer that if I chose to have my kids restricted that ATT would prevent my kids from accessing inappropriate content, and instead restrict them to content appropriate for kids.

Ya think maybe AT&T needs to hire someone in their marketing depart who actually had high marks in grammar!

I can’t help but wonder if the nude blond woman in this Rueter’s story is living out what is the ultimate fantasy for some submissives. Being described as beautiful tall, and adorned with gold as well as being publicly displayed. She got out of the passenger seat of a car, went into the gas station. Made her purchase and got back in the car, which left. I can’t help but think that her dominant was driving the car.

Of course, she could just be a nudist.

Violet wands also called violet rays machines were a fad or quake medical item in the 1920’s and 30’s. They were supposed to cure and or treat almost any ailment you can imagine.  (I’m sure it gave a temporary relief of most ailments since they induce endorphin production — gosh I love those endorphins)

A violet wand it made of two parts. The base or handle which is a generator or sorts. And, the probe or top which is where the electrons collect so they can be applied to your body.

(The inside of a violet wand looks kinda like the inside of a simple aquarium air pump. A magnet is positioned between two metal poles. The magnet moves back and forth very fast and this is what causes the buzzing sound when you turn on a violet wand. Don’t take yours apart, they are very hard to put back together and have them work properly and safely.)

When the violet wand is turned on, the glass prob will usually emit a purple light. Sometimes the light can be orange or red. The prob is like a neon tube. There is inert gas inside the probe and when excited by electricity it glows. The color is dependent up on the actual gas that is in side the violet wand probe.

When placed near the skin, the electrons that have collected on the prob will jump to the skin. If there isn’t much build up, the sensation is mild. If there is a lot of built up and the electrons have to jump pretty far, the sensation can be a very stingy static pop. A key thing to know is that the violet wand doesn’t build up and store static electricity. When you turn off the wand the build up of energy is gone. With static electricity the build up would remain lurking and waiting to zap you. That doesn’t happen with a violet wand.

I have seen many brands and styles of violet wand devices. Usually the older ones came in leather bound cases with velvet fitted linings designed to hold the generator and an assortment of glass probes. The generators were made of black or brown bakelite. Usually they were sold to medical practitioners. The more recent violet wands were often colored. Probably because they were used in spas and sold to ladies for home use for cosmetic reasons. Today violet wands are still manufactured, though in much smaller quantities. They are still used for cosmetic purposes by some spas and they are actually used in industry to test integrity of metal objects. Of course, the industrial test devices go by a much different name. The modern violet wands sold for cosmetic use typically are not as powerful as the antique wands. Though a few small companies do manufacture violet wands for bdsm purposes and sell them through stores like ours.

The wand kit that we sell is designed to be safe and to fail safely. If you buy an antique violet wand, be very careful with it. Make sure all the wires are sound and that if it fails you do not harm anyone by electrocuting them. I suggest using a GFCI outlet for playing with the wand just in case. A portable GFCI plug costs about thirty or forty bucks. It’s cheap life insurance.

With the bad stuff mentioned, I’d like to say the violet wand is great fun. It can be a silly little thing like so many of the BDSM crowd thinks. Often the violet wand is dismissed as a showy flashy but not very serious BDSM play toy. Those who know about it and play with it for any length of time know the violet wand can also be a heavy SM play toy. I can tickle someone, I can relax someone, I can give someone the feeling of a massage. I can also hurt someone, make them cringe, make them yelp, yell, scream. I can also brand them with a violet wand. It’s a really versatile play toy. It’s also one I can pull out in front of all my vanilla friends as a “quake medical device” because that is really what it is. :-)

A few years ago my job required that I travel a lot. I spent some time in Seattle, Washington. There is a great place there for kinky folk called the Wet Spot. It’s a sex positive community center and probably one of the very best like it in the country. They have a very robust schedule for all kinds of groups of people not just limited to kinky people and do a lot of community education. But a few nights a month/week they have an open door munch type of social get together where new people exploring bdsm are very very welcome. It’s also a requirement to attend if you want to go to any other bdsm type gatherings at the Wet Spot.

Since I was spending time in Seattle I wanted to get to know the area. Kinky people are people I have things in common with and whether or not I want to play, it is easy for me to fit in with that group as we already have something in common. So… I attended the social. It was a lot of fun and everyone was very friendly. One person took it upon themselves to give me a tour of the facility and to introduce me to other people there. It is definitely a respectfully easy going kind of place. (If you are new and in Seattle and thinking of going there, it also felt very safe.) After the social there was a pansexual bdsm play party. I was invited to stay.

What to my wondering eyes should appear? A very nice young man with a violet want and a line of people ohhing and ahhing and some saying “oh that violet wand looks scary”. The girl he was playing with was jumping around and I could hear the zaps and smell the ozone that the wand generates. I watched while he played with several people. The glowing purple glass probes on the wand were very pretty to look at, like a very soft neon purple sign or something. Actually is was a ’sign’ for me. I wanted to taste the wand.

After he was finished playing, I asked him what was it called, how did it work. He very generously offered to let me feel it. At my consent, he plugged it back into the wall and ran the wand down my forearm. WOW! That is really neat! He showed me how it could be made to feel like a little tickle and how it could hurt like a strong static shock you get from walking across a wool carpet and touching a door knob. Then the questions in my mind really started up.

We didn’t really play much (that time). But he definitely left me wanting more of the wand. I could tell that the violet wand could be a tickly giggly fun toy or if used with the right accessories it could really be intense. I’ll have to tell you later what I learned about the violet wand.
